What is a Teardrop Camper?
The name "teardrop" comes from the aerodynamic streamline shape resembling the shape of a tear. A Teardrop Camper is a small, lightweight travel camper with a sleeping chamber and a kitchenette inside a back hatch. The Teardrop Camper was popular in the 1930's and 40's and now the teardrop camper is making an economical comeback. The aerodynamic form, small size and light weight allows for easy towing. Its footprint eliminates the need for extra brakes and wider mirrors. The FOXY model built by Foxy Trailers uses lighter materials than its predecessors making towing its total weight of 400 pounds (empty) and 1400 pounds (total) un-noticeable for even the smallest cars. It may even be the lightest teardrop for its size with such a capacity! The FOXY camper's cabin can hold 2 adults comfortably and may have the smallest total footprint of 8 feet with a cabin length of 6 foot, 6 inches. There is also extra storage space in the hatch. The cabin can also be used for cargo storage and can carry appox. 1000 pounds of gear during travel. The kitchenette inside the hatch has a 12 inch stainless steel,pass-thru sink and countertop with a sturdy hatch with dual locks. We built the FOXY Teardrop with certain criterias in mind.
